Darrin E. Johnson
Darrin E. Johnson is a Florida native. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Studies and a minor in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida. Mr. Johnson earned his law degree from Texas Southern University and holds a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration Management from the University of South Florida.
While attending Texas Southern, Mr. Johnson served as a Legislative Legal Aide to State Representative Sylvester Turner for the 77th legislative session. Mr. Johnson was instrumental in working with legislators to create and pass the Texas Fair Defense Act, which required for the first time, all criminal courts in Texas to adopt formal procedures for providing appointed lawyers to indigent defendants.
Mr. Johnson joins the Law Offices of Robert Eckard & Associates having served over 5 and a half years as an Assistant Public Defender in Florida’s 6th Judicial Circuit (Pinellas and Pasco counties). As a public defender, he represented citizens of the state accused of criminal violations in all phases of litigation. In addition, Mr. Johnson represented clients and has tried cases from misdemeanors to felonies including capital murder. His practice with our firm encompasses all aspects of criminal defense, as well as commercial litigation.
Most recently, Mr. Johnson was appointed by Florida Bar President-elect William J. Schifino Jr. as Vice-Chair of the Florida Bar’s Standing Committee on Diversity and Inclusion. Mr. Johnson is a member of the Florida Bar entertainment, arts, and sports section, American Bar Association-entertainment and sports industries forum, Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Clearwater Bar Association.
